OS X.5 / X.6 - Time Machine and (multiple) Volumes

Time Machine can handle different types of volumes for its backups, not only one local drive. It can store Backups on network-mounted volumes, can handle multiple backups on different volumes etc., but there are no native options to do so.

Here you will find the solutions to some scenarios:

Volume Changer  html, english	Florian Wobbe wrote a shell-tool and an Application (Droplet), that sets the used Backup-Volume automatically without using the System Preferences. With this tool you can backup on unsupported Volumes e.g. on a local volume thats not formatted as HFS+ (using a Sparseimage). (compiled for OS X 10.5, 10.6 and uncompiled version for 10.7 Lion)
Backup on 2 Volumes  html, english	Automated two independent Backups on different volumes (shellscript). Version for Leopard (OS X.5)
Backup on 2 Volumes  html, english	Automated two independent Backups on different volumes (shellscript). Version for Snow Leopard (OS X.6)
Enable network-volumes  html, english	Enable network-mounted volumes as backup-location. (OS X.5 / X.6)
Backup on NAS  html, english	Backup on a network-mounted volume thats not formatted as HFS+ (like a NAS). (OS X.5 / X.6)
